For the visible face walnut is used,
for the 2 inner layers the cheaper beech wood.

The 3 layers are bent and glued around a mould.
It is the glue that stabilises the bent form.

The 3 layers in walnut are cut from the same wooden block,
allowing the walnut edges to be uniform in colour and grain.
